The UAE's 1 Billion Followers Summit has announced two new awards worth a combined US$1.1 million for its 2027 edition. One competition will recognise an original film made with artificial intelligence, while the other will reward positive stories shared on TikTok. UAE Government Media Office chairman Saeed Al-Eter announced the initiatives. He said the summit wanted to encourage content with a positive impact.
The AI Film award is being organised with TikTok, ByteDance and SeeDance. Applications are open for original films lasting five to seven minutes and made using SeeDance AI software. The competition carries a US$1 million grand prize. It gives filmmakers a defined format in which to submit work using the technology.
The second award, called 1 Million Stories, is being organised with TikTok and offers a US$100,000 grand prize. Entries are to be shared on the platform under the hashtag #1millionstories. The competition will recognise stories that encourage positive content and messages. Al-Eter said the content creation sector was continuing to grow and change, and that the UAE supported the people working in it.
The summit will also dedicate a day to Instagram creators. A creator market will bring together 100 companies to present their businesses and seek investment opportunities. Al-Eter said the 2027 edition was expected to be the largest yet. UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Al-Gergawi also spoke about the country's expanding role in content creation and new media.
