Shell Contracts Offer Opportunities for Sabah Suppliers

Two deepwater contracts awarded by Sabah Shell Petroleum Company could give local suppliers more opportunities in the state’s oil and gas industry. The awards cover the Malikai Phase 3 Mooring System and deepwater operations and maintenance services. Both support the company’s activities in Sabah’s offshore waters.

The importance of involving Sabah businesses was discussed at a contract award ceremony at Plaza Shell in Kota Kinabalu. Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Dato’ Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub attended the event. Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun officiated at the ceremony.

The report identifies participation in the offshore supply chain as an opportunity for Sabah-based companies. Shell Malaysia’s emphasis on local vendors could help businesses gain access to work connected with its deepwater operations. The two awards concern different areas of activity, covering a mooring system and the services required for offshore operations and maintenance.

Greater participation could also help Sabah companies improve technical capabilities and develop specialist expertise. Expanding their business capacity would help them meet the requirements of the oil and gas industry. The opportunities described relate to supplying and servicing offshore operations, with local vendor involvement forming an important part of the discussion at the award ceremony. These include offshore services.
