More than 1,500 restored laptops and tablets have been given to pupils from low-income families and other vulnerable groups across the United Arab Emirates. The distribution formed part of the Giving and Hope Back-to-School Campaign, which aims to ensure that children have the technology needed for lessons. Orphans and pupils supported by the Tarahum Charity Foundation were among those who received the devices.

Institutions and organisations across the UAE donated 48 laptops and 1,085 tablets, which were repaired and brought up to technical standards before distribution. The programme is connected to the Digital School's wider Donate Your Device campaign. The Digital School, an initiative of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, provides digital education for underserved learners, refugees and displaced communities.

The current campaign is being run by the Digital School, Emirates Red Crescent Authority and Ecyclex, with support from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. It has set a goal of collecting 100,000 used electronic devices for reuse. Khalid Al Qasim, chairman of Tarahum's board, said the partnership represented a coordinated community effort that would help beneficiary families begin the academic year with greater confidence.

An earlier campaign launched in 2023 collected 50,000 devices and recycled 120 tonnes of electronic waste. Organisers estimated that it reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 122 tonnes, saved 170,000 litres of fuel and protected 32,000 square feet of land from pollution. By repairing devices instead of discarding them, the project supports both access to education and the responsible use of electronic equipment.
