COVID-19 Confirmed Cases in the OIC Member Countries (Daily Updates)

As the global number of COVID-19 confirmed cases exceeded five million on 20 May 2020, the OIC share of this number reached 12.43%. In total, forty-seven OIC nations reported 17,980 new cases on that day, bringing the total coronavirus patients to 631,323 in all OIC countries. Five of these countries reported more than 1,000 new cases on the same day: Saudi Arabia (2,691), Iran (2,346), Pakistan (1,932), Bangladesh (1,617) and Qatar (1,491).

The 22 Arab nations, all of which are OIC members, accounted for about 46% of the newly confirmed cases on 20 May. Of this figure, about 81% were cases reported by the six GCC nations. For the first time since 25 March, Turkey confirmed less than 1,000 new COVID-19 patients in one day. Sixteen OIC nations reported less than 10 cases each, and 9 of them did not report any new cases on the same day. There is only one OIC nation that has not reported any coronavirus infections so far.

Forty-one OIC countries confirmed that 10,127 of their patients recovered as of 20 May, and this brings the total OIC recoveries from the highly contiguous disease to 343,644 which accounts for 54.43% of all OIC confirmed cases. The number of OIC nations with over 50% recovery rates on 20 May remained the same (26) as the previous day. Thirteen OIC nations reported more recoveries than new infections on the same day.

Half of the OIC countries with COVID-19 infections did not report any virus-caused deaths on 20 May. The other 28 nations reported 267 deaths, increasing the death toll to 17,862 since the start of the pandemic. The outbreak fatality rate in OIC nations was 2.83%, significantly less than the global rate of 6.48% on the same day. Uganda and Mozambique remained the only two OIC nations that have not reported any death of their coronavirus patients.
