Takaful Malaysia Soars Despite Slowing Economy

Last December, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad (Takaful Malaysia) was projected to register healthy earning growth this year. The projections were based on a strategy report published by CIMB Research, the research arm of CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, and it was in view of the support the company receives from its steady gross earned contributions. According to the report, the net profit growth rate of Syarikat Takaful Malaysia in the financial year 2017 is foreseen to reach 12.6 per cent, compared to 10.6 last year.

Celebrating the full illustration of its slogan “We protect. We care. We share” Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad is the first and only company in Malaysia to offer 15% cash back, should a claim not be filed.

It was not a surprise, therefore, to find Takaful Malaysia as the top in Malaysia’s best performing Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) list in terms of Returns on Equity. As per the Financial Times, Takaful Malaysia grew year-on-year revenues 18.02 per cent from RM 1.27 billion to RM 1.50 billion while net income improved by 13.02 per cent from RM 155.98 million to RM 176.28 million. Furthermore, in 2016, Takaful Malaysia increased its cash reserves by 72.04 per cent (RM 394.30 million). The company earned RM 321.32 million from its operations for a Cash Flow Margin of 21.46 per cent. In addition the company generated RM 216.10 million cash from investing.

The intent progress of Takaful Malaysia reflects its strong mission, to which both the management and staff of the company are committed. The company is led by Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Mohamed Hassan Kamil since April 2007. He propelled Takaful Malaysia to become the top Takaful operators in Malaysia, and one of the best Islamic insurance companies in the world. He has steered the company to a higher level with proven and sustainable financial performance, which is manifested in the wide recognition it earns today. Dato’ Sri Hassan is backed by his global competence and international exposure — having worked in the East and the West.

Kamil was awarded the Jewels of the Muslim World Award, in 2012, during the 3rd Muslim World BIZ, held in Jakarta. The award acknowledges the excellent performance of Dato’ Sri Hassan and his feat in developing the Takaful and Islamic Finance industry.

Takaful Malaysia was founded in 1984 and its operations started in July 1985 before it was listed on the Main Board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange as a public limited company in 1996. Along the journey of 32 years, several milestones were achieved locally and internationally. Takaful Malaysia was awarded the Best Takaful Company in Malaysia four times during the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th International Takaful Summit, held in Cairo and Abu Dhabi and London (twice) respectively. It also received The Edge-BRC Best Performing Stock Award (Highest Return to Shareholder over Three Years) in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
