The share of COVID-19 cases in the OIC member countries of the global figure reached 10.51% on 5 December after 43 of the infected members recorded 79,931 new infections, bringing the total OIC confirmed cases to 7,023,143 since the start of the pandemic. There were 19 OIC nations with over 10,000 active cases. Meanwhile, 23 of the OIC members had less than 1,000 active cases, of which 9 countries had less than 100 unrecovered patients as of the same day.
Turkey had the largest number of active cases (355,946) among all OIC countries on 5 December. A total of 13 OIC countries recorded over one thousand new COVID-19 infections each on the same day namely Turkey (31,896), Iran (12,151), Indonesia (6,027), Azerbaijan (4,323), Morocco (4,118), Jordan (3,160), Pakistan (3,119), Iraq (1,898), Bangladesh (1,798), Palestine (1,422), UAE (1,214), Malaysia (1,123) and Tunisia (1,091). There were 13 of the infected OIC countries that did not report coronavirus infections on 5 December and Turkmenistan remained the only OIC member that is coronavirus-free.
A total of 46,377 COVID-19 patients had reportedly recovered in 43 OIC member countries on 5 December, bringing the total OIC recoveries to 5,534,590. This figure represents 78.81% of all OIC's confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. A total of 54 OIC nations had over 50% recovery rates, of which 22 had more than 90% recovery rates, on the same day. Iran had the largest number of single-day recoveries (11,602) and Gabon had the highest recovery rate (98.4%) among the OIC nations on the same day.
Twenty-eight of the OIC member countries reported 1,101 COVID-19 fatalities on 5 December bringing the total OIC deaths due to the global outbreak to 159,583. This accounts for 2.27% of the total number of patients confirmed in all infected OIC nations. There were 3 OIC members that reported over 100 deaths on the same day namely Iran (321), Turkey (196) and Indonesia (110). In total, there were 1,328,864 active COVID-19 cases in 55 OIC countries on 5 December.
