COVID-19 Confirmed Cases in the OIC Member Countries (Daily Updates)

COVID-19 confirmed cases in the OIC countries accounted for 13.12% of the global figure on 28 May 2020 after 49 of the member nations reported 18,898 new cases, bringing the total OIC confirmed cases to 773,976 since the start of the pandemic. Seven OIC countries confirmed more than 1,000 new patients, three of them had over 2,000 infections on the same day. Bangladesh reported its largest number of daily infections.

For the first time, on 28 May, Egypt recorded more than 1,000 cases since the first case was reported in the country on 14 February. It has the largest number of COVID-19 patients among all African OIC nations. Seven of the member countries did not report new cases on 28 May, six of them are from Africa, whose 27 nations that are OIC members share about 10.52% of the total OIC coronavirus infections.

The recovery rate from COVID-19 in the OIC countries reached 56.18% after 43 of the members reported that 14,329 of their patients recovered on 28 May. This brings the total OIC recoveries to 434,806. The number of OIC nations that have over 50% recovery rates increased to 30, thirteen of which had recovery rates that are over 70%. Thirteen of them reported more recoveries than new infections on the same day.

Speaking of the COVID-19 death toll in the OIC nations, it reached 20,132 after 30 of these nations reported that 290 of their patients passed away on 28 May.  Among all OIC countries, Yemen had the worst fatality rate of 20.5% and it is one of two member countries, together with Mauritania, that have more deaths than recoveries from the novel coronavirus. Uganda is the only infected OIC country that has not reported any COVID-19 caused death.
