COVID-19 Confirmed Cases in the OIC Member Countries (Daily Updates)

The OIC countries recorded 19,221 new COVID-19 cases on 21 May 2020, the highest number of daily coronavirus infections to be recorded in all OIC nations since the start of the pandemic. This brought the OIC total confirmed cases to 650,223 which accounts for 12.54% of the global figure. Three OIC countries reported more than 2,000 cases on the same day: Saudi Arabia (2,532), Iran (2,392) and Pakistan (2,193).

Three other OIC nations reported more than 1,000 cases: Bangladesh (1,773), Qatar (1,554) and Kuwait (1,041). For the second day, Turkey confirmed less than 1,000 cases on 21 May. Nine of the infected OIC countries did not report any coronavirus infections and 16 of them confirmed less than 10 new patients on the same day. The cases in the 27 African OIC nations represent 9.93% of the total OIC confirmed cases.

Thirty-nine of the member countries reported that 11,204 of their COVID-19 patients recovered on 21 May, and this brings the total recoveries in all OIC nations to 354,655 since the beginning of the pandemic. Fourteen of the infected OIC countries reported more recoveries than new cases of COVID-19 and 26 had more than 50% recovery rates as of the same day. Despite having the 3rd largest number of cases among OIC countries, Saudi Arabia reported more recoveries than new infections.

The coronavirus death toll in the OIC nations reached 18,144 after half of the infected countries (28) reported that 282 of their patients passed away on 21 May. The outbreak’s fatality rate in all OIC countries was 2.79% on the same day. Yemen is the only OIC nation with more COVID-19 deaths than recoveries. Mozambique and Uganda remained the only two OIC members with no deaths caused by the pandemic so far.
