AS part of his efforts to place Malaysia among the leading economies of the region, through cooperation with Asian countries, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is reviving the Look East Policy which he initiated in 1982. The policy's principal goal was to shift the focus of relation from the West towards the new rising Asia, specifically Japan, and help drive industrialisation in Malaysia. During his last visit to Japan early November, the PM discussed the idea of establishing branches for a number of Japanese universities in Malaysia, an idea that has received positive response from the Japanese government. The updated policy also promotes investment and expands the space to many able Malaysian people to be active in both countries.
