As the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in all infected countries around the world exceeded 112 million, the share of OIC member countries in this figure was 10.97% on 22 February. A total of 52,337 new infections were reported by 47 OIC nations, bringing the total OIC COVID-19 cases to 12,317,548 since the start of the novel coronavirus outbreak in January. With 10180 newly confirmed patients, Indonesia had the largest number of COVID-19 infections among all OIC countries on the same day.
Another 10 OIC countries reported more than one thousand new COVID-19 infections each on 22 February. These are Indonesia (10,180), Iran (8,263), Turkey (8,104), Jordan (4,550), Iraq (3,864), Malaysia (2,192), UAE (2,105) and Lebanon (1,541), Palestine (1,334), Pakistan (1,160) and Albania (1,039). However, nine of the OIC nations did not report COVID-19 infections and 19 of them had less than 100 new cases on the same day. Iran had the largest number of active cases (171,313) among all OIC countries on the same day.
Forty-four OIC member countries reported that 49,265 of their COVID-19 patients had recovered on 22 February bringing the total OIC recoveries to 11,094,508 in all infected members since the start of the pandemic. This represents a 90.07% recovery rate which is relatively higher than the global recovery rate of 78.12% as of the same day. Of all infected OIC nations, 27 have over 90% recovery rates while 25 of them had more COVID-19 recoveries than new infections on 22 February. Indonesia had the largest number of single-day recoveries among all OIC members.
The fatality rate of COVID-19 in the infected OIC member countries was 1.9% on 22 February. A total of 668 patients reportedly passed away in 33 members, bringing the pandemic's death toll to 234,079. While 27 OIC countries have more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths, 11 of them have less than 100 fatalities. Indonesia had the largest number of fatalities (202) among all OIC countries and Yemen had the highest fatality rate of 28.45% on the same day.
